SALT LAKES-UKRAINIAN DEAD SEA

The permanent visiting card of the Arabat Spit is the Salt Lakes, located near the village. Schastlivtsevo. They are 21.1 km away. and 25 minutes by car from Genichesk, practically opposite the international Kozyavkin clinic (rehabilitation complex "InterMedicalEcoCity"). The lake is of artificial origin, therefore it has no name. Only artificial outline of the lake, everything else was done by nature.

To be more precise, there are two salt lakes. These are two rectangular lakes up to about two hundred meters wide and separated by a thin isthmus. They are dug in the sand. The salt concentration in the lakes is very high. And even "very" sounds very modest. There is so much salt that water is on the verge of forming salt crystals in it. How did the mystery of nature come about. It is very difficult to get this concentration. Puddles that are located nearby are constantly changing. As the heavy rains pass, they expand to the concrete road. When the weather is dry, the puddles dry up and leave a salt crust on the ground.

This place has become very favorite among tourists who first of all want to improve their health and usefully spend time for relaxation. The healing mud and brine of the Sivash Salt Lake by the content of active substances and mineralization is many times higher than the mud of the Dead Sea. In summer, the lake is visited daily by more than 1,000 people with health problems (musculoskeletal system, endocrine system disorders, nervous system disorders, skin diseases, etc.)

The benefits of salt baths in the Salt Lakes can hardly be overestimated, since they not only contribute to the restoration of mental harmony and complete relaxation, but also have a general strengthening effect on the body as a whole.

Diving in Salt Lake is not recommended. Due to the high concentration of salt, water in the lake, getting on the mucous membranes or in the eyes, can cause painful burning or even irritation. Some time after the salt bath, the brine should be washed off with fresh water.

On the territory of the Salt Lakes there are showers, several stalls with food, and on the lake itself you can comfortably ride on swan catamarans, dragons and water scooters.

PINK LAKES - NEW TOURIST MECCA OF UKRAINE

Nature has generously endowed the Azov region. This is a real source of health.

It is also incredibly beautiful here. But, perhaps, the most unusual places are mysterious pink lakes.

One of the pink lakes is located near the village of Priozernoe. In Soviet times, a salt production plant worked here. Today, salt mining has been stopped, and only dilapidated walls remind of the plant itself. However, you have a unique opportunity to see how salt is born and take away as a keepsake some of the salt crystals you mined yourself.

Both lakes are replenished with the waters of the Sivash. The pink color of the water is due to a small alga - Dunaliella Salina. She lives in concentrated salt brine containing natural mineral components. During the flowering period, the alga actively produces natural carotene, which paints the lake surface in all kinds of shades of pink. Under the rays of the hot southern sun, brine gradually evaporates, and crystals of pink salt are formed on the surface, enriched with carotene, iron, potassium, magnesium, iodine, bromine and other organic, biologically active substances that are so necessary for the health of our body.

Dunaliella Salina is known as a powerful antioxidant - it contains over 30 different carotenoids, and above all beta-carotene, which is a powerful stimulant of the immune system. It is widely used as a cosmetic and nutritional supplement.

Beta-carotene plays an important role in the formation of mucous membranes, epithelial tissues, which is part of the skin, glands, respiratory, urinary and digestive tracts. It prevents the formation of cancer cells, makes the skin resistant to irritation, thanks to this substance we tan. In general, solid utility.

Lacustrine brine is used both as a separate course of treatment and in combination with mud therapy. Bathing in brine is a very useful and effective procedure. You will forget about the ailments accompanied by inflammatory processes, including those that cannot be cured by official medicine. Salt baths will alleviate chronic joint diseases - arthritis and arthrosis. They are effective in chronic skin diseases, in particular psoriasis. Due to the increased content of beta-carotene, the pink brine of the bay has antiseptic properties and acts as a powerful immune stimulator. Rapa has the ability to reduce the pain threshold, dilates blood vessels, accelerates blood flow and cell regeneration, is a prophylactic agent for adhesions, and has a resorbing effect of scar tissue.

Taking salt baths is the prevention of diseases and the improvement of the body. Such baths are prescribed for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, polyarthritis, chronic rheumatism, osteochondrosis, radiculitis, edema, myopathies, tendon inflammation, mastopathy, psoriasis, keratosis, seborrhea, dermatoses, neurodermatitis and eczema, hypertension.

On pink lakes, in addition to salt, blue and black curative mud is mined. The brine gives the mud the desired plasticity and consistency, effectively removes the mud applied to the body. Lake mud is a product of the interaction of brine and substances of organic origin, both contained in the lake and brought from the external environment. The mud from the Lemurian Lake is the only Sivash mud that has an international certificate. Today it is mined on an industrial scale and exported abroad.

Every year more and more people learn about the beauty and benefits of these unusual and unique places. Many tourists, having come to rest on the lakes, are happy to come back here again. If you want to combine pleasant rest with health improvement, you are definitely here. Come and be healthy.

LAKE SIVASH

Lake Sivash is a shallow bay of the Sea of Azov, which is bounded on one side by the Arabat Spit, and on the other by the Crimean Peninsula. Sivash is called a real gift of generous nature.

Dozens of years ago, the Sivash was discovered from the sea and was distinguished by considerable depth. Due to the displacement of the soft coastal soil of the Sea of Azov, pumps, shoals and spits gradually began to form. So gradually Lake Sivash separated from the main reservoir and acquired a modern look.

The water in the Sivash is stagnant, and the bottom is covered with a thick layer of silt that smells of hydrogen sulfide. It is interesting that "Sivash" is translated from the Crimean Tatar language as "dirt". He also has another dissonant name - the Rotten Sea.

In summer, part of the reservoir dries up, exposing its muddy bottom. At the same time, the area of the lake is significantly reduced. It becomes a lifeless, dirty gray plain that looks like the surface of another planet. On especially hot days, the sludge dries out and weathered, leaving behind salt crystals. At these moments, Lake Sivash takes on a truly fantastic view.

Since ancient times, salt has been mined on the banks of the Sivash, which is known throughout the world. The water of the lake has a varied mineral and chemical composition and includes: bromine salts, sodium sulfate, magnesium chloride, potassium, etc. According to some estimates of specialists, salt reserves in Lake Sivash reach more than 200 million tons.

According to scientists, the mud and brine of Lake Sivash are unique in that they have pronounced medicinal properties.

It is known that there are only four such places on earth: the Great Salt Lake (USA), the Dead Sea (Middle East), the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay and, of course, the Sivash on the Arabat Spit.

Due to natural evaporation, the concentration of salt in sea water in Sivash increases 16 times. Every year up to 12 million tons of bromine, sodium, magnesium and other valuable minerals are deposited in it. The brine from the lakes and bays of the Arabat Spit is no less curative than the curative mud.

Sivash therapeutic mud (peloids) is a plastic mass that is formed under the influence of natural factors: swamp deposits, precipitation, eruptions of mud volcanoes. The composition of the mud includes organic residues of plant and animal origin, inorganic substances: aluminum dioxide, sulfur, iron.
The mud also contains enzymes, hormones, vitamins and antibiotics. These properties served as the basis for the use of Sivash mud in the production of medicines. Healing mud increases the energy potential of the human body and its resistance to disease, significantly enhances the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect.

THERMAL SOURCES OF THE ARABAT ARROW

Hydrotherapy center "Garyache Dzherelo"

The first therapeutic hot spring (with a temperature of 42-45 ° C) on the Arabat Spit was discovered by accident in the late 60s during drilling operations to find oil and gas. It is located 10 km from the town of Genichesk, now there is the Garyache Dzherelo water and mud baths built in the 80s.

The hydrotherapy center "Garyache Dzherelo" has a conclusion of the Odessa Institute of Balneology on the medicinal properties and use of thermal water for the treatment of many diseases, as well as for the recovery of patients for preventive purposes.

The hydropathic establishment operates on an outpatient basis and does not provide housing with meals. She begins to receive visitors from May to October. You can settle in recreation centers that are located nearby, as well as in the private sector.

Those who come to the hydrotherapy undergo a preliminary examination by doctors and if there are no contraindications, then the hospital provides baths, a pool of underwater vertical traction for the treatment of the spine and large joints. Qualified doctors and masseurs work here, who are fluent in the technique of classical massage.

It is known that taking baths has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antispasmodic effect, accelerates the restoration of damaged tissues, and normalizes the state of the peripheral and autonomic nervous system. The presence of bromine in the water gives a good result in the treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia, asthenic and neurosis-like conditions. Good results are observed in patients with psoriasis.

The course of treatment consists of 6-18 procedures. It all depends on the patient's condition and the results of the effects of water on the body. The recommended period for the repeated course of treatment is 3-12 months.

Thermal source in the village. Schastlivtsevo

Later, in 1987 in the area with. Schastlivtsevo discovered a second thermal spring of similar mineral composition (temperature 65 ° C). According to the Ukrainian Research Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy, thermal waters contain high concentrations of compounds of iodine, bromine, silicic acids.

In Soviet times, in the 80s, construction of a rehabilitation center for athletes began on this site. By the time the union collapsed, the construction of the center near Schastlivtsevo had not been completed, all work had stopped.

In 2005, the unfinished building and the territory were leased, at this place the construction of the International Rehabilitation Center named after V.I. Kozyavkin. Volodymyr Ilyich Kozyavkin is a professor, doctor of medical sciences, co-author of more than 80 scientific papers, chief specialist in medical rehabilitation of the republican Ministry of Health, Hero of Ukraine, director of the International Clinic for Rehabilitation, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.

He invented a highly effective method of treating children with osteochondrosis, the consequences of trauma, cerebral palsy and damage to the nervous system of organic origin. The main component of the method is biomechanical correction of large joints and spine, enhanced by a complex of therapeutic measures.

The professor has developed a unique system of video surveillance and monitoring of patients' condition, which has no analogues in the world.

Stockholm and Munich universities are in contact with him regarding the treatment system.

To date, 10 buildings of the center have been built and a small pool has been built on the site of a thermal spring using our own funds.

It is still a long time before the construction is completed and the center starts operating, but there are some positive moments.

In July 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft Law on the development of therapeutic and restorative medicine based on the rehabilitation system according to the Kozyavkin method.

At the moment, there is a spring near the rehabilitation center, open to all comers all year round. The temperature in it throughout the year is 65 degrees, therefore, thanks to it, from 15 to 20 thousand people visit the Arabat Arrow in the off-season.

Thermal spring-Strelkovoe

Another unique place on the spit is a small salt lake, which is located 7 kilometers from the village of Strelkovoye.

This is not a radon source, this element is absent here, but there is a lot of iodine and bromine. The water in it has a calming effect on the nervous system. Even if you just walk around him, you can feel peace. It is worth coming here in order to "breathe" even with a cold - iodine vapor quickly relieves all manifestations of acute respiratory infections, tonsillitis, flu. Even with pneumonia, it helps to cope. The water in it is hot enough, on the surface it reaches 45 degrees. It is very good for the skin, heals small cuts, cracks, softens and cleanses rough skin on the feet. Water comes from a very deep well, more than a kilometer deep, the same temperature all year round.

ZYABLOVSKIE LAKES - ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES ON THE ARABAT STROKE

Another unique place on the Arabat Spit is located on the western side of the central highway at the entrance to the village. Schastlivtsevo.

Despite its proximity to settlements with. Schastlivtsevo and Genicheskaya Gorka, they were undeservedly ignored by both tourists and local residents for a long time, until, as part of the creation of a promotional video about the Arabat Spit, they were filmed from a bird's eye view. As it turned out, the lakes, like the famous Pink Lakes in Priozernoye, change their structure and color depending on the season from snow-white at the height of summer to maroon in spring. Water has a specific smell.

All this together aroused genuine interest on the part of local government bodies. At the moment, scientific studies of the lakes are being carried out for the uniqueness of their properties. Even according to preliminary estimates of experts, these lakes may already form the basis of grandiose investment projects to create water and mud treatment centers.

Zyablovskie lakes are saline drainless lakes, 2.33 km long and 0.56 km wide, located in the northern part of the Arabat Spit. In the picturesque surroundings of the lake there are such settlements as Genicheskaya Gorka and Schastlivtsevo. An earthen barrow divides the lakes into southern and northern parts. The coastline in the southeast, where there is an artesian well, is characterized by its steep banks, which are adjacent to salt marshes.

The lakes were formed due to the flooding of the estuarine areas of dry gullies and their delimitation by a sandy strip. Zyablovskie lakes are fed by groundwater of the Sivash, artesian waters of the Black Sea basin, as well as seasonal precipitation (rain, snow), the average annual amount of which reaches 400 mm.
The extreme northern part of the lakes dries up during the dry season.

The lakes are intensively overgrown with aquatic vegetation in areas where water comes from artesian wells; algae are usually developed at groundwater outlets.
The modern Zyablovskoye Lake is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful natural attractions of the Genichesk region, and most likely, they will soon become a favorite place for active recreation of residents of the surrounding settlements, as well as an ideal place for photo sessions in nature.

FLORA AND FAUNA OF THE ARABAT ARROW

The world uniqueness of the Arabat arrow lies in its proportions. It is 100 km long, while being 0.5 to 3 km wide. Consists mainly of sandstones. The northern part - near Genichesk, ends in narrow straits. The southern part is adjacent directly to the Kerch Peninsula (Crimea).

The basis of the fauna of the Arabat Spit is made up of marine life. In calm weather, locals and many vacationers love to snorkel and watch flocks of mullet, anchovy, goby, gloss, pelengas and other fish of the Azov Sea. On the arrow, you can get carried away with shrimp fishing activities, which even small children can do. Fishing lovers come to the Arabat Spit from all cities of Ukraine, as well as from neighboring countries, because a goby is excellently caught here. From mammals on the arrow you can find a gopher.

The fauna of the Sea of Azov is characterized by a relative poverty of the species composition (up to 350 species), however, by an exceptionally large quantitative development, according to which the Sea of Azov exceeds all sea water bodies of the world. Phytoplankton and benthos are most developed. Phytoplankton consists of diatoms - 55%, peridinia - 41.2%, and blue-green algae - 2.2%. In the biomass of benthos, mollusks occupy a dominant position. The skeletal remains of the latter are represented by calcium carbonate, and have a predominant share in the formation of modern bottom sediments and accumulative surface bodies.

The ichthyofauna of the waters of the Sea of Azov near the Arabat Spit includes 103 species and subspecies of fish, which belong to 76 genera. It is represented by anadromous, semi-anadromous, marine and freshwater species.

Anadromous species of fish, before the onset of sexual maturity, live in the sea, and enter the river only for spawning. The breeding period in rivers or on borrowings usually does not exceed 1-2 months. Among the Azov anadromous fish, one can find the most valuable commercial species: beluga, stellate sturgeon, herring, vimbets and shemaya.

Semi-anadromous species of fish enter rivers from the sea for breeding. However, in rivers, they can stay for a longer time than anadromous ones. As for the fry, they roll down from the spawning grounds very slowly and often remain in the river for the winter. These fish include: pike perch, bream, ram, sabrefish and some others.

Marine fish species breed and live in salty waters. Among them, there are those permanently living in the Sea of Azov: pelengas, glossa, tulka, flounder-kalkan, Black Sea sopach, three-spined komashka, pipe-throat and all kinds of gobies. There is also a group of marine fish that enter the Azov from the Black Sea, including making regular migrations. These include: Azov anchovy, Black Sea anchovy, Black Sea herring, ram, singil, ostronos, loban, Black Sea kalkan, horse mackerel, mackerel and the like.

Marine mammals of the Sea of Azov are represented by one species - ordinary Phocene (or Azovka, Azov dolphin, fir, chushka). Focene leads a gregarious life. The herd groups include from two to ten individuals. The population is small. Azovka is the smallest animal from the group of cetaceans. Representatives of the local Azov-Black Sea population are smaller than dolphins from other parts of the range. Females are somewhat larger than males: 90 - 150 cm. The maximum size of males reached 167 cm, and females - 180 cm. The average weight of the Azov dolphin is 30.2 kg, and the average life expectancy is 25 - 30 years.

The flora of the Arabat Spit is also unique. In terms of the number of plant and animal organisms, the Azov Sea has no equal in the world. It is known that in terms of fish productivity (the number of fish per unit area) the Azov Sea is 6.5 times higher than the Caspian Sea, 40 times the Black Sea and 160 times the Mediterranean Sea.

In the Sivash district, due to the high concentration of salts, the animal world is almost absent. Only a few crustacean species and mosquito (bloodworm) larvae are able to exist in such an environment.

There are many plants growing on Arabatka that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Flora mainly consists of saline and steppe vegetation, there are few trees on Arabatka. But burdock, silver loch, thyme, dubrovnik can be found here in abundance

In the second half of June we visited the Arabat Spit. This time even further than they were before. The trip was very successful, I met seven new species, and many, not seen for a long time, meetings began in Novoalekseevka, where a flock of nine pink pelicans circled over the elevator. Then I saw them several times on Sivash.

The most common, numerous species were: barn swallow, black-fronted shrike, steppe lark, millet, coastal swallow, on the territory of the base there are also starlings, swifts, house sparrow. Common, but less numerous are the white wagtail, crested lark, and field pipit. There are surprisingly many black-headed wagtails on the salt marshes near Sivash.

Of the near-water birds, the most common are cormorants, black-headed gulls, gulls, river terns, but local attractions are well represented: sea doves, spotted terns and gull-billed terns. Sometimes one could see black-headed gulls, gulls, small terns.

From waders on the sea and even near the pond at the base one could always find a small plover, and on the Sivash sea plovers. There were a lot of stilts, awlbeaks were less common, but once I saw a large cluster. Big snails, oystercatchers, herbalists were not a novelty either.

I saw only two of the predators - Marsh Harrier and Kestrel. Occasionally bee-eats and one Roller. I heard the voice of the pheasant constantly, and once frightened the female. The sound of the cuckoo was always heard from the same place, from the dense thickets by the pond near the half-abandoned recreation center.

Two curlews

One day I went to Sivash after lunch. I just approached, looked around, suddenly I saw two large curlews flying! I go further, watching for a long time two tules, probably flying. And in the distance, a flock of red ducks - burn, I have not seen before! Peganki also came across. Then I again look at the tules in the lens (they are standing far away), suddenly a group of small Easter cakes flies up to them, and in it among the sea plovers there are two sandpipers-sparrows! As they explained to me, these are still late migrants.

The next day I went early in the morning. Here a new surprise awaited me, four spoonbills flew by! Again I saw curlews, Tules. Three mute swam on the Sivash.

For a couple of days in a row I went to the quarry ponds - wide rectangular, rather open reservoirs along the sea. There are gray and white herons. Thrush-like warblers crackle. I clicked some seagull over the beach - it turned out to be a black-headed gull!

Then he turned to Sivash, and not in vain. I heard an unusual voice, and spotted two meadow tirkushki in flight! I must say, I really hoped to see these birds, but already began to get used to the idea that they do not live here. So it was a good gift.

Meadow tirkushka

The next day I repeated the route. This time we were lucky with the duck. On the ponds I saw teal cracks. And on the Sivash - broad-nosed. But one more surprise - in a puddle in the distance, a large dog-tree was feeding.

Photos, of course, did not work out very well. The birds are not very trusting, I saw some only in the distance or in flight. By the way, this place is located on the administrative border of the regions. And although I lived in the Kherson region, I met all the new species on the territory of the Crimea (only the curlew then flew into the Kherson region).

ISLAND OF TURKEY

Biryuchiy Island bewitches everyone who has the opportunity to visit its enchanting blue shores with its special beauty. Once it was really an island in the Sea of Azov, 25 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. Over time, wind and water, washing up the sand, united the earth. Because of this, Biryuchiy Island became a continuation of the Fedotov Spit, forming the Utlyuk Estuary.

Biryuchiy is connected with the mainland only by a thin isthmus, which is barely visible on the map. In the autumn, during strong and prolonged storms, the water of the Azov Sea cuts off the spit from the mainland for a long time. For this reason, Biryuchiy is also called an island.

The peninsula is a single natural complex of the Azov-Sivash National Natural Park. The administration of the reserve is located in Genichesk.

On an area of 57.4 thousand hectares, the pristine beauty of wild, virgin nature is spread. A completely clean and transparent sea, a beach, wild animals walking freely - all this delights every visitor.

The presence of fresh water in the pristine steppe favorably promoted the growth of trees: poplars, oaks, acacias, olive trees, gleditsia, imported under the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU - NS Khrushchev. Nowadays, the trees have grown so that the island resembles a labyrinth, cut by dense forest belts. Bizarre thickets on the shores of the lake form high perennial reeds. In May, among the silvery waves of feather grass, wild flax turns blue. A rare flower - tulip-shrenka pleases the eye. In October, you can collect bouquets of salt asters and sea mustard. Good purple astragalus and saltwort, which are especially abundant in the lake shores. Surrounded by thickets of reeds, these lakes create a kind of landscape. Almost until the very frost, green trees and bright colors of flowers delight the eye. Natural meadows of tulips are most striking. Artificial forest plantations have also been created on the island - mulberry, acacia, gladichia, poplar grow well here.

The island of Biryuchiy is inhabited by such rare species of animals as Przewalski's ponies, deer, Daniel's fallow deer; mouflons brought from the Askania-Nova biosphere reserve have taken root. Representatives of the local fauna are raccoon dogs, hares, foxes and other mammals. More than 30 species of birds that are listed in the Red Book live on Biryuche. The steppe became a shelter, and then a permanent habitat for golden eagles, bustards, gulls, peregrine falcons, cranes, kestrels. There are white-tailed eagles and little bustards. Hunting bird species: partridges, pheasants, wild ducks and geese.

You can get to Biryuchy Island from Genichesk or Arabatskaya Spit by a pleasure boat with local travel agencies at an affordable price. They will be happy to offer a sea voyage to the island, an exciting photo safari and an unforgettable swim on the reserved beach.

They say that Biryuchiy Island was poured on the orders of Peter I, as an obstacle for Turkish galleys to penetrate the southern borders of Russia. The name of the island is translated as "Wolf Island" (from biryuk - a lone wolf).

Biryuchiy Island is full of free movement, sun, life, not spoiled by the nets of civilization. Here the amazing natural world opens up, which is almost untouched by humanity.

Biryuchiy is an extraordinary natural oasis in the Azov region. On a fine fine day, the Biryuchansky coast, especially the lighthouse and groves around the village of Sady, are perfectly visible from the side of Genichesk and the Arabat Spit.

Biryuchiy was declared a nature reserve in 1927, which is part of the Azov-Sivash National Natural Park. The attraction of the island is the Biryuchiy lighthouse, 31 meters high, which was built in 1878.

Scientists assume that in the past, the royal Scythians lived in the vicinity of this spit, which is confirmed by numerous finds. Perhaps it was Biryuchiy who was depicted on some Scythian coins in the 1st millennium BC. e.

PAPANINA ISLAND

In the water area of the Sivash Bay near the Arabatskaya Strelka, there are a large number of islands, each of which has its own ...

PAPANIN ISLAND. UNIQUE ISLAND IN KHERSON REGION.

In the water area of the Sivash Bay near the Arabatskaya Strelka, there are a large number of islands, each of which has its own personality and a very rich history. One of the largest islands of the archipelago is Papanin Island (the old name on some maps is Koyanly, Kayanly, Kiyanly, Kuyanly), 6 km from the village of Schastlivtsevo. The maximum length of the island is 7 km, and its width is 3.5 km.

Papanin Island compares favorably with similar islands in that it is considered mainland, and there is also fresh water of excellent quality, quite suitable for use in food. That is why people used this place to live and conduct business.

When examining the island, several flint flakes were found, and a mound 3.5 m high and 40 m in diameter was identified. At the foot of the mound, a leg of a Chersonesus amphora was found. Thus, archaeological exploration showed that the surveyed area was part of the mainland land, was mastered by people in the Neolithic period and was visited by them in the Bronze Age, ancient and also medieval times.

Today, the plant world is not rich here, it is represented by drought-resistant grasses, halophytes - plants adapted to the increased salt content in the earth and undersized shrubs. The fauna of the island is represented mostly by birds.

The first landowner on the island was the landowner Nabirkin, who had 500 acres of the best land on the Arabat Spit with beautiful pastures on the Kuyanli island. His father has long grazed his cattle there, and for water he went by ferry to Gengorka. This continued until he received permission from the zemstvo council to purchase this wild, waterless piece of land. The smart entrepreneur knew that there was fresh water on the island and literally a month after the purchase, several artesian wells appeared there. Soon a Nabirkin farm of 12 households grew up here, and Kuyanli Island began to be called Nabirkin Island. After the death of his father, Nabirkin Jr. began to lease land to the local wealthy peasants Kozlov and Girenko. At the same time, he himself lived in Genichesk and had a small mill there. Nabirkin Jr. was educated as a veterinarian. After the October Revolution, he left for Simferopol, where he worked as a guard and was killed by bandits in the 1920s during a bank robbery. The grave of his mother has been preserved in the old city cemetery.

There is another version: in the village. Brilevka, Tsyurupinsky district, founded in 1845, one of the first settlers was a certain Nabirkin. In the directory of populated areas of the Tauride province in 1861, the settlement is presented as the state-owned village of Brilevka, but its old name, the settlement of Nabirkin, is also indicated in brackets. Perhaps a wealthy peasant from Brilevka bought land from the Nogais on the island of Kiyanly and laid a farm. There are many such stories on Chongar and Arabat Srelka.

Until the forties, there was a bridge-crossing to the island; there was a small coarse mill on the island, there was a smithy and there were wells. The farm on Papanin Island, according to 1942 maps, was called Nabirkino. On the American map of the USSR, 1950, the Nabirkino farm is also indicated. But that didn't exactly match 1950.

During the Soviet era, there was a collective farm named after I. Papanin (this is probably how the modern name of the island appeared) and a small village with three dozen yards and with all the necessary infrastructure: a cowshed, a shop, an office, an MTS. The collective farm's land was about 1000 ha. arable land and meadows.

At all times the people lived on the island, the crossing was the weakest point. In the summer, boats and longboats were ferried to the island, in winter they crossed the ice. Ice on the Sivash is a very unreliable thing, since low temperatures are needed to freeze salt water or Sivash brine, so a stable ice cover does not always and not last long. The upland winds also contribute to the unreliability of the crossing, because of which the width of the crossing sometimes reaches a kilometer, and when the wind changes and drives the water mass to the south, then a small channel of 100 meters remains.

In 1970-1980 (the policy of unpromising villages and the consolidation of collective farms), the last inhabitants of Papanin left at that time. This corner of the earth has become uninhabited again.

Ideas to revive the settlement were heard in the 2000s, and in 2006 a project to create a Biotechnological Recreational Tourism Complex “Papanin Island” appeared. It was supposed, in addition to the protection and use of the wormwood-forb cover preserved here and the population of nesting and migratory birds, to begin breeding wild artiodactyls. Local freshwater ponds were supposed to be used for fish farming. So far, grandiose plans have not come true.

Today the island, despite all its potential, is abandoned and uninhabited. The only inhabitants are migratory birds that appear here during their migration to warm countries.

DOLPHINARIUM IN THE GENIC HILL - SEA OF EMOTIONS AND GOOD MOOD

On June 21, 2014, a historic event took place for the entire Genichesk region and the Arabat Spit - the opening of the Oscar Dolphinarium, the largest in the Sea of Azov. The genius dolphinarium is the second largest in the network of dolphinariums in Ukraine.

A lot of residents from Genichesk, Gengorka, Schastlivtsevo and Strelkovy with their families came to the opening of the dolphinarium, and vacationers with children were also present here.

The Dolphinarium offers shows of professional artists who show many interesting tricks: incendiary dances, singing serenades, rolling trainers, juggling with balls, high jumps with flips - you can tell a long story, but it is best to see it with your own eyes. The group of the main artists of the theater on the water consists of four dolphins and several fur seals. The incomparable impressions of the complete mutual understanding between trainers and dolphins.

The coaching dynasty of the Kalganov family made a huge contribution to the education of animals. The son of the former dolphin and fur seal trainer Viktor Kalganov, Andrey, is the co-founder of the dolphinarium network.

The show lasts about 50 minutes, but the program is so rich that there is hardly anyone who will say "Not enough!"

Among the performances, there is an auction to sell a painting painted by a dolphin, so those who wish should be financially prepared to purchase a dolphin masterpiece. In 2016, some changes took place in the coaching staff, so you can be sure that the show program will delight you with new numbers in the show program.

Dolphinarium "Oscar" is located on the Arabat Spit in the village of Genicheskaya Gorka, at the entrance to the boarding house "Builder".

The design is distinguished by the presence, in addition to the main one, an auxiliary pool, used as an insulator in case some artist with fins feels unwell. The spectator tribune is designed for 820 seats. The stands are protected by a shade canopy, so the stay inside is as comfortable as possible. Initially, the organizers hoped that about 45 thousand tourists would be able to attend the show with the participation of dolphins during the holiday season.

The entertainment complex is based on a swimming pool with a total displacement of about 2300, a diameter of 24 m and a depth of 5 m, which is quite enough for the comfortable keeping of animals. The water entering the pool passes through sand-quartz filters, and the acid-base balance is carefully controlled and regulated to maintain high transparency of the water.

One bottlenose dolphin, namely, they are presented in the dolphinarium, weighing up to 500 kg, eats 15-20 kg of fish during the day. The set of numbers in the show is not something unchanged and may change during the season, so that every new visit to the dolphinarium will be remembered for something special.

Many people come to see the dolphins, however, it is worth paying attention to the fur seals, with their participation in a number of funny and challenging performances. Appreciate the pinnipeds' impeccable coordination and ability to master the ball, spin the hoop and express your feelings.

When buying tickets, you should pay attention to the location of the sun and the diagram of seats that hangs above the ticket office. For example, at 11:00, the red sector and half of the yellow sector are in the shadow. Based on convenience, the seats for spectators are divided into ordinary and VIP. More prestigious chairs are located in the first three rows of the central sector.

Opening hours: the dolphinarium is open daily, sessions at 11:00, 15:00 and 19:00.
